Republic Act 10175 otherwise known as the Cybercrime Prevention Law of 2012 took effect on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in the Philippines. As Webmaster of ChatComPh (CCP), along with like-minded users of our free Filipino chat, forum and social network services, I say NO to this cybercrime prevention law.
CCP users are one with the Filipino netizens worldwide protesting and denouncing RA 10175. We believe that the said cybercrime prevention law can and will restrain our freedom in the internet, violate our rights to privacy and confidential information and used to just harass us.
We support the government in their intent to deter and punish cyber crime but we say no to this particular law. The internet must be kept open and free. We must keep our freedom on the internet.
We enjoin all our users and other Filipinos who do not like their internet freedom to be curtailed to sign the petition to junk the cybercrime prevention law.
